First project in the new house.
Our closing is in two days, so with all the craziness of trying to organize ourselves for the move we haven’t been doing too much that would be blog-worthy. I have, however, been thinking about the one project that I’m allowing myself to do immediately: Painting the foyer. (And yes, I pronounce it “foy-yay.” Deal.)
Our lovely new house has a dirty secret, but it...
I should be packing boxes.
Instead, I’m going to motivate myself to pack boxes by posting here about our new house. We have about 10 days until our closing which is crazy.
As we were packing up our books, we were thumbing through all of our bungalow-related books that we acquired soon after moving into our current house. It is a 1925 Craftsman and until we looked into buying it, I had no idea what a Craftsman was. I...

Grilled corn with basil-garlic butter
Before this summer, my husband and I had never been very adventurous when it came to grilling. We have had a few grand ideas but tended to fall back on fail-safe burgers and brats. Now that we have an infant and are housebound after baby’s bedtime, I guess it seems like we might as well get a little creative with the grill and hang out on our back patio as the sun goes down.
I’m...

Sleeper lounge chair
I discovered this bad boy at Target last week. I really liked its clean lines, the fact that it is a dark gray, and it pulls out into a little twin sleeper. Oh wait, here’s the best part. It was $150. I didn’t actually think I’d be able to find an affordable and non-ugly pull-out, but surprise! The cushion just pulls out and folds out flat, so it isn’t the most plush...

Peach-Strawberry Torte
I love this torte. I’ve made it so many different ways and it is always beautiful and delicious. It is simple to make but it makes you look like you know what you’re doing. Believe me, I never have any idea what I’m doing.

The lighting is in.
It is so nice to see my lovely Schoolhouse Electric fixture in its home.
You can also see our new carpet remnant that the carpet store cut to the wrong size. Argh. But at least it was cut too large and not too small. I really would have loved some non-carpet flooring, but with the horrible and uneven asbestos tiles underneath, this was really the easiest fix.
Seeing everything in its place,...

Strawberry Yogurt Muffins
This morning I woke up hungry and thinking about the pint of strawberries languishing away in our fridge. I wanted to make strawberry muffins, but the last time I did, I ended up with something so sweet and fluffy that they might be more aptly called cupcakes. (No offense, cupcakes. You have your rightful place in my heart.)
I found this lovely muffin recipe over at Noble Pig. I like that...

To do.
to be updated as needed
{1} Paint the office walls.
{2} Prime and paint the new living room screens.
{3} Find a carpet remnant for the office.
{4} Finish priming and painting the kitchen trim.
{5} Paint the office windows and water main cabinet.
{6} Paint the upstairs hallway.
{7} …
Yes, I’ve become quite familiar with my local Benjamin Moore store.

Blues of summer
While perusing my friend Courtney’s worthy blog My So-Called Denver, I admired a piece of artwork she selected by photographer Alicia Bock. Over at Alicia’s Etsy store, I found so much more to fawn over. Her Polaroid photos capture the essence of summer in the most ethereal way. I have a love/hate relationship with summer. I really don’t like the heat or the bugs or the - god...

Ikea run
Is it really just an “Ikea run” when it involves taking a plane across several states, storing the goods in a garage for 2 months, and then hauling it across the country via Chevy Blazer?
Over the weekend we purchased the beech Lagan countertops (from the very hectic kitchen section — I didn’t even lay my eyes on a sample but purchased it nonetheless) and the Expedit...

In search of the perfect pan
Some decisions are very difficult for me. It took me about 7 months to find the right stroller (and in the end I have some regrets). I have been thinking about pans for about 5 months now, ever since my parents said that a nice pan would be my Christmas present. At first, we were going to go for one of those fancy-pants new nonstick ones that supposedly doesn’t give you cancer because of...

Office, in progress (part 3)
Hey, it is the other side of the room! The drywall needs to be cut around the doorway which will eventually be French doors.
In other news: The Schoolhouse Electric fixture arrived and it is lovely.

Office lighting
Along with the recessed lighting which will highlight our fabulous workspace, the following shade and fixture from Schoolhouse Electric will go in the center of the ceiling.
(black line shade)
(otis fixture)
I have wanted to order from Schoolhouse Electric for the longest time, and I can’t wait to see how this light looks when it arrives.

Office, in progress
The beginning, pretty much.
Somewhere in the middle, awaiting drywall.
